Please note that in none of the Preambles is anyone told they MUST worship God.

Very good post, Seth! While I was reading the preambles and scrolling down I was thinking: Liberals ought to leave that state, and that one, and that one, etc...

Voila! No states left for Liberals to live in! There's always Europe for them...

So how was the rack of lamb? I LOVE rack of lamb which I coat with a dijon mustard, olive oil, and garlic rub, then crust with chopped fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme and parsley...

However, we had turkey on Thanksgiving, which I do love. Turkey sandwich for lunch today!

Posted by: atheling2 at November 24, 2006 02:29 PM

I guess all our state constitutions are unconstitutional. I think ACLU believes that anyway.

Atheling2 --

France could always use as many of our liberals as they can get, to help dilute their Muslim population, so maybe the US govt ought to start a new program, and call it "Send 'Em Off!" or "Operation Liberal Dump".

If they asked for my endorsement, they'd get it in a heart beat -- it would work wonders for our Homeland Security efforts, once we've also de-Kellerized.

The lamb was great. The thing I miss is waking up the day after and enjoying a leftover turkey sandwich or three. :-)

I think that whenever a judge in a certain state (this after getting rid of idiot liberal judges) has a case before him that is ACLU vs Ten Commandments display, etc, he should be able to pull out a plaque of the above and say, "Excuse me, please read this, counsellor.... Case dismissed!"

Posted by: Seth at November 24, 2006 04:46 PM

"Operation Liberal Dump!!!!!"

ROFL!!!

Our guys in the military would have so much fun with that!

Posted by: atheling2 at November 25, 2006 01:44 AM

Seth, this post is most appropriate considering the specific holiday.

As far as the ACLU is concerned... are there any rolling donuts around?

Posted by: Old Soldier at November 25, 2006 05:08 AM

Atheling2 --

Operation Liberal Dump would be easy to validate as a Homeland Security function and, given the left's influence on our prosecution of wars in progress, could easily fall into the auspices of the Armed Forces. So we ought to "Send 'em off!"

With my new, bigger self cleaning oven, I look forward to trying a rub re what you describe for rack of lamb. Mmmmmm! Although the only Dijon I buy now is Canadian, nothing from France -- I wanna send 'em our liberals, not support their pitiful economy, right? -- Italy still provides great olive oil and McCormick takes care of the rest. :-)

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Seth at November 25, 2006 05:33 AM

Seth,

Re: dijon mustard - agreed! I buy no French products (though I admit I'm partial to Chanel No. 5 perfume which I've received as a gift *ducks*) But with cheese, wine, etc... I buy US or from one of our friendlier nations. Actually I pretty much buy only domestic wines.

Last time I bought Greek olive oil which was very good. Trader Joe's is one of my favorite purveyors of gourmet foods, which is where I usually buy things like that, though reading the label is paramount because TJs does sell French products.

Posted by: atheling2 at November 25, 2006 11:13 AM

Atheling2 --

When I lived in SF, Trader Joe's was one of my main grocery stores. They have good products. As far as I know, though, the farthest east they've gotten so far is Chicago, and that's only been for maybe 2 - 3 years.

Posted by: Seth at November 25, 2006 12:20 PM

Seth,

Trader Joe's is on the East coast now. Philly, NY, New England, etc... and still growing.

That's one thing I do miss about CA: a Trader Joe's within easy distance. However, when I'm near one I always make a point of stopping by and finding things to take home!

Posted by: atheling2 at November 25, 2006 12:35 PM

Atheling2 --

I had no idea they had hit the east coast, having not seen any when I've been in NY or heard of them here in NC. Good for them! They are a company that should be doing well.

Posted by: Seth at November 25, 2006 01:20 PM

Excellent entry! Most people are not aware that God is mentioned in each and every State Constitution.

I hope that you and your readers are having an excellent Thanksgiving weekend. God Bless!!

Aakash --

Welcome!

Our current crop of Democrats, thanks, I believe, entirely to their takeover by the far left, is in hot pursuit of the atheism favored by liberals' seemingly obvious but misguided pursuit of communism -- I don't venture that all liberals want to live in a communist country, but as the ACLU is the fore-runner of this atheistic bent via their lawsuits vs any and all Biblical references in tax financed arenas and ACLU founder Baldwin's stated priorities re communism, that would seem to be the direction in which they are headed.

In the communist manifesto {sorry, couldn't resist :-)} belief in G-D comes between the citizen and the state. They won't tolerate this.

America was founded on a belief in G-D and His principles, commandments and justice, and these folks are fighting a hard fight to take them away.

Hopefully, they won't succeed.

BTW -- I have visited your blog, and I hope and pray that your ambitions lie with teaching -- you have a way of inspiring thought ala inner debate, and that could only be of great service to your students, no matter what their majors.

Posted by: Seth at November 25, 2006 09:55 PM

How extreme can denial get such that various people and organizations contend that this nation was not founded on the Judeo-Christian concept of God's providence!

I love Atheling 2's comment:

Liberals ought to leave that state, and that one, and that one, etc...

Voila! No states left for Liberals to live in!

Just think of how wonderful life could be!

AOW --

I'm with Atheling2 all the way.

Why should they even be here if the going program is offensive to them?

As in all things, instead of trying to change what works and ruin life for millions of people who are happy with the existing system, why don't they just move to a climate that supports their own requirements?

A: Liberals haven't a clue, they believe their extreme minority position is the mainstream system of belief, and they believe that we need to have our lives micromanaged by the government.

Posted by: Seth at November 26, 2006 05:41 AM

Excellent point made here, Seth, but perhaps we shouldn't tell them. Next thing you know they'll be attempting to remove all references to God from the state Preambles!

Posted by: Gayle at November 26, 2006 09:12 AM

LOL Gayle!

I wouldn't even be a tiny, tiny bit surprised if the ACLU dug up 50 Newdow wannabes and filed on their behalf.

Of course, they would probably win in California.

Posted by: Seth at November 26, 2006 12:28 PM

It is amazing how much damage the ACLU has done in the past several decades, and how successful in painting a revisionist view of what our Founding Fathers wanted for us, and what kind of government. It grates on my nerves when I hear "separation of church and state", because so many of my fellow Americans have been brainwashed into a belief or acceptance, that this is in our Constitution.

If I'm not mistaken, for good or bad, didn't some of the original states have a state-endorsed church, as well?

Posted by: wordsmith at November 26, 2006 06:01 PM

Wordsmith --

I believe all or most of the New England states did in the beginning. They were originally settled by groups who would be branded "extremists" today, even by the far right. Remember the witch burnings in Salem, for example.

RE the ACLU and their fellow travellers on the left, including the liberal MSM, they have been as successful as they have in "rewriting" the Constitution because theirs is an aggressive nature; They want to force their agendas down everyone else's throats, and they make a career out of it. Those of us on the right are too busy living our lives and enjoying our liberty to devote the same amount of energy to "fighting back", as it were. The left is the proverbial "squeaky wheel".

The MSM uses slogans like "The people have a right to know", for example. Try finding that in the Constitution. You won't.

The ACLU crows about the "right to privacy". You won't find that in the Constitution, either.

But they hammer this stuff into the public conciousness until, as in all repetition, it sinks in and becomes accepted "fact".

The 3 Bs -- bullying, browbeating and B.S.ing.

Questions - When did historical liberalism lose its way? Or is this desire to expunge religion from the public arena a heresy within liberalism?

Posted by: civil truth at November 26, 2006 08:34 PM

Civil Truth --

This whole anti-religious thing seems to be a fairly recent (last few years?) event. Though Baldwin (ACLU founder) stated his goal of communism in the U.S. as far back as the ACLU began, the atheist bit is only now coming into its own.

Communism cannot brook any belief in G-D, because the Deity would come between the people and the absolute authority of the state.

Posted by: Seth at November 26, 2006 08:54 PM

Well, all those states are going to have to change their constitutions.

While they are at it, they may as well leapfrog ahead and insert "Allah and his Prophet Mohammed" in place of the currently offending sections.

Posted by: Mike's America at November 27, 2006 08:39 AM

Mike's America --

There lies the harsh reality the globalists and our own liberals are going to encounter somewhere down the line -- they will dilute any public unity as believers in G-D, go the PC route with terrorism's PR firm, CAIR, and allow Islam to creep in the back door, so to speak, and suddenly their neatly planned socialist paradise will be overwhelmed by an enslaving enemy they should have vanquished when they had the chance, but instead obstructed said vanquishing.

The world, including the United States, will be seeing some extreme tragedy in our lifetimes, and it will be brought to us courtesy of the left.

Posted by: Seth at November 27, 2006 09:31 AM

Civil Truth wonders
"When did historical liberalism lose its way?"
..perhaps with Jefferson?

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.

-Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, Dec. 6, 1813.

...or his predecessor, the French (spit!) philosophe?

The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers.
-- Denis Diderot, Observations on Drawing Up of Laws (1774), repr. in Lester G Crocker, ed., Selected Writings, ed. (1966), quoted from The Columbia Dictionary of Quotations

...perhaps the XVI century polymath Giordano
Bruno?

Mingled with his allegorical philosophy are the most vehement attacks upon the established religion. The monks are stigmatized as pedants who would destroy the joy of life on earth, who are avaricious, dissolute and the breeders of eternal dissensions and squabbles. The'mysteries of faith are scoffed at.
...perhaps historical liberalism was born of
ecrasez l'infame; l'infame the medieval monolith of all-powerful encompassing religion. Hard to say. One wonders when historical conservatism
made its sharp right turn........

BB --

I may have misunderstood CT's speculation , as I was thinking more in terms of modern applications: lawsuits whose goals have been to eliminate such items as the Ten Commandments and other symbols of Bible-based religious beliefs from the public domain.

You have established the roots of what is today's more hands-on war on religion (at least of the Judeo-Christian variety, as it seems that Islam has a pass).

It is interesting to note that a couple of years ago, when Newdow ran his suit to take "under G-d" out of the pledge of allegiance (it was added, I believe, the year before I was born), members of Congress, liberal and conservative alike, stood shoulder-to-shoulder and recited it, "under G-D" included.

Since then, it's been back to "business as usual": The left accusing the right of the intention of combining Church and State, of religious extremism, et al.

While this is a moneymaker for the ACLU, I wonder when (if?) the rest of the American left will wake up and realize that the belief in G-D figured rather ponderously in the drafting of the documents that defined the United States of America.
