Hizzoner Speaks

Yeah, he's a Democrat, but he's right up there in my esteem with former Republican mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani as one of the two best mayors of Gotham in my lifetime -- Ed Koch, who stands behind President Bush's leadership in the Global War On Terror and even voted for Dubya in the 2004 election -- I guess he never saw any merit in joining the angry left in their attacks on the President or in their dedication to bringing down the greatest country in the world, ostensibly because unlike most of that crowd over there on the left, he is a patriot.

He has penned a new OpEd about a guest sermon he gave at a Rosh Hashanah(Jewish New Year) service eight days ago, worth the read for sure.

In a fatuous editorial, The Times lectured the Pope. It stated: "A doctrinal conservative, his greatest fear appears to be the loss of a uniform Catholic identity, not exactly the best jumping-off point for tolerance or interfaith dialogue. The world listens carefully to the words of any pope. And it is tragic and dangerous when one sows pain, either deliberately or carelessly. He needs to offer a deep and persuasive apology, demonstrating that words can also heal."

What wrong did the Pope commit? Quoting a 14th-century emperor? Condemning violence as a religious tactic and urging a dialogue? We should be applauding the Pope for his bravery and supporting his call for dialogue. Has The Times ever acknowledged that we are now engaged in a war with Islamic terrorists worldwide who have clearly stated that their desire is to convert or kill the infidels who they believe we are?

To Truncate,

Now let's turn to the United Nations and what took place when Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez addressed the General Assembly. He vilified President Bush, referring to him as "the devil," and stated that he could still smell the scent of sulfur on the speaker's podium from President Bush's earlier address to the Assembly. He mockingly crossed himself for protection and went on at length with his vilification of President Bush and the United States.

What offended me even more than Chavez's ludicrous remarks were the responses of the U.N. delegates. No one stood up and told Chavez that he was out of order and demanded that he stop or sit down. They should have told him he was a disgrace to the U.N. Instead they are reported to have applauded this monster and laughed with him, instead of at him. The Times reported: "So while there was official outrage over Mr. Chavez calling Mr. Bush 'the devil,' there was also a lot of applause and giggling, from dignitaries including the president of the General Assembly herself, Haya Rashed al-Khalifa of Bahrain, who was caught chuckling from her seat on the dais behind Mr. Chavez."

Where was the official outrage, and why was Chavez not rebuked while he held the platform? Many of the countries whose delegates were amused by his vitriol receive their sustenance from the U.S. We feed their people and provide much of their medical care. Many expect the U.S. to protect them from attacks from other countries, and some of them are even formal allies. Yet none of them walked out to show solidarity with us. The two nations not in the chamber when Chavez took the dais were the U.S. and Israel. We should forever remember the craven behavior of those who stayed and cheered.

Hizzoner speaks his mind....

There is such a thing as a Democrat who actually thinks! Not many examples of that, but some, and this is a perfect example.

There are also perfect examples of Republican's who are worse than Dems, because they disguise themselves as Democrats, but when push comes to shove, just box up the works, i.e., John McCain. RINO's. They're worse than Democrats because we don't really know who they are until they are elected.

I do, however, feel that Chavez's assinine speach, along with Ahmadinejad's, was a good thing for the simple reason that is was blaired all over national Television and maybe it actually woke some people up! (We can hope... right?)

Posted by: Gayle at October 1, 2006 07:47 PM

I hope so too, Gayle.

Koch and Zell Miller are old time Democrats, the kind who still have common sense and principles. I used to be a Democrat and grew up in a Democrat voting family. Most of us have become Republicans now because we realized that the Democratic party and political correctness have gone off the deep end.

I hope people are waking up. But from the level of rhetoric I see coming from the left, I'm hard pressed to feel optimistic. They are so firmly entrenched in a world so removed from reality that you can't help but think that their minds are ruined. They know nothing of human nature, nor can they think critically. And they're coming out of the universities in masses. They're like the Borg.

Posted by: atheling2 at October 1, 2006 09:40 PM

Gayle --

I sincerely hope that Americans who were believing the rhetoric coming out of the NYT and the rest of the MSM considered the contents of both Ahmadmanjihad and Chavez' speeches and realized just what kinds of psychotics this administration is trying to protect us from, and that they vote accordingly.

Atheling2 --

...and they're coming out of the universities in masses...

That's the worst of the worst case scenarios -- the enemy has influence over our young people by the witting and unwitting consent of the media and our politicians, the left has too many Americans believing lies delivered for partisan political benefit.

The Borg -- great comparison, LOL! Unfortunately, all too accurate....

Great read.

I have no doubt the left loves this country. The problem is that they want to love it to death... and, with that I have a problem. No amount of super gluing their eyes open will make them see that they prescribe an ideology and government that is doomed to fail and take the nation down with it.

We must get the message and voters out on Nov 7th!

Atheling2-

All those business majors, lawyers, accountants, doctors, engineers etc. are just hopelessly brainwashed leftist drones?

Hardly.

Gayle in a surprisingly lucid moment allowed as how many of the remarks of Chavez & Ahmadmanjihad are intemperate and the best possible proof of the menace they both represent.

I agree.

Our ideas are better than theirs & that is why we will ultimately succeed in dealing with the threats we face.

Old Soldier --

It really is a shame that things have come to the point where the ongoing American political debate is not on how to defend the nation, but on whether, to defend it.

The folks on the nay side of the equation will, hopefully, be defeated by all those of us who still retain our common sense.

Arthur --

Some of the farthest-left dingleberries out there have advanced degrees -- problem: They O.D.'d on academia to the point of burying themselves in the theoretical and losing touch with the realm of reality.

The fact that someone's an engineer, an MBA or, as we've seen, a Democrat with a Law degree is not an indicator of the state of either his mental health or his character.

I have never known Gayle not to be perfectly lucid.

As often as not, ideas as consequential as that of liberty have to be fought for on the battlefield, that's reality. No matter how ideal a Utopian, peaceful world might be, it will never happen, because there will always be dissatisfied elements wanting to overthrow their governments and governments wanting more global influence or "real estate" that belongs to other governments. It is the nature of the beast.

On the same token, diplomacy can be useful in preventing wars between countries.

Islam does not belong to the above community, diplomacy can't work with it because it views compromising as weakness and respects only terror, torture and murder as a way to its ends.
Its' scriptures command this.

The liberal response to this may work well in a field of dandelions, but in the real world, the one outside of the lefty's mares-eat-oats mind, affairs are quite the opposite.

Koch mentioned Daniel Pearl. I often think that most Americans have forgotten about the atrocity of Pearl's beheading. Where's the Muslim apology for THAT travesty?

Good read. Thanks for pointing the way to the article.

Posted by: Always On Watch at October 2, 2006 02:45 PM

AOW --

You're Welcome. :-)

Even though Pearl was one of their own, you'll notice that in the interests of PC as well as downplaying the War On Terror (a matter of anti-Bush politics), we read or hear little remembrance of it from the mainstream media.

If a NYT reporter meets a similar fate, it will simply be the fault of "Bush's Iraq War", and there will be weeks of editorials blaming Bush rather than laying the blame on Muslims practicing their Islam.

Posted by: Seth at October 2, 2006 03:01 PM

Excellent statement by Ed Koch:a healthy advocacy of Western values and none of this "We're entirely to blame..." nonsense. He sounds like the rare politician I actually could vote FOR rather than voting AGAINST his opponent. Thanks for the link.

Civil Truth --

I've always thought Koch was a great American and forever look forward to reading his OpEds.
He is what a Democrat was before the liberals assumed control of their political party.

Posted by: Seth at October 2, 2006 03:44 PM

I'll just say "ditto" to all the well deserved praise for Ed Koch. That kind of clear thinking is a rarity in his party these days.

I'm sure there must be many Democrats who feel the same way he does, but don't speak up for fear of being ridiculed by the angry lefties that have made hate into a political platform.

Posted by: Mike's America at October 2, 2006 07:35 PM

Mike --

I think there are probably quite a few older Democrat politicians, who were around during the Kennedy era, who are holding their noses while they "earn" contributions ala Soros, unions, etc, and the very concept is sickening.

Statesman-To-Sellout in one easy step.

I don't include Teddy K. in this lot, he's the relative the Kennedy family should have kept locked in the attic.

Otherwise, it's pretty much,

"Don't tell my mother I'm a politician, she thinks I play the piano in a whorehouse."

An assertion without a hint of proof.

And don't bother citing David Horowitz. He's a complete fool. 'The Professors' is a farce. Sloppy and almost completely inaccurate. All those 'researchers' for such a crap product.

Posted by: Arthur Stone at October 3, 2006 06:05 AM

Ah, the selective "knowledge" of a lefty.

Face it, Arthur, like the rest of your hard-a-port ilk, evidence of any kind is forever wasted on you. If it doesn't fit your own twisted version of "the truth", it is automatically ignored, ridiculed or discarded out of hand.

That's why nobody wastes their time and energy providing you with links for fact checking the events on which you spew.

Posted by: Seth at October 3, 2006 07:03 AM

Seth-

Thanks for yet another blind assertion masquerading as fact.

Of course the Horowitz 'work' is considered the definitive word on the 'liberal academy'. Too bad so little of it is true.

But as I always say about Horowitz & his fellow converted to conservatism opportunists, if they were wrong 40 years ago there's no reason to think they're right now.

Posted by: Arthur Stone at October 3, 2006 08:27 AM

Arthur --

I have not made reference to Horowitz anywhere in either this post or the comments section, yet here you are engaging in full blown, one sided debate over something I haven't cited, nor even thought of doing so.

You are one sick puppy!
