Good cause: I bought a bundle. I already have the carbon offsets for smoking my pipe. (Prince Albert is right up there with the coalfired generating plants in the four corners http://www.cpluhna.nau.edu/Change/power_generation.htm Is there a futures market for these yet? Kudos to GM for reaching out to us demented libs!

It’s good to see you’re investing wisely. From your comments, it’s also obvious that unlike most self-styled liberals, you smoke normal tobacco in a conventional pipe (no tube or hoses attached), so you pollute less (they say that smoking a “single serving” of alternative tobacco is the nicotine equivalent of smoking an entire pack of cigarettes) than most liberals.
The site you’ve linked discusses the pollution put out by the power plant, but it neglects to point out that the libs have, for many years, been denying us the option of producing electricity in the clean, non-polluting environs of nuclear power plants, so we must take whatever course is necessary to have electricity.
Therefore, power plant related pollution is mostly the fault of the left.

In the article on the linked page, while the author refers to different average temperatures in the area over the years (chaffing at the bit to equate it with global climate change?), the references are restricted to that locale. The author hasn’t yet risen to humming Algore rhythms.

Nuclear generation is a common sense approach. Surely you know it is the liberal - socialist solution: see http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/nuclear/page/nuc_generation/gensum2.html for the listing of countries utilizing nuclear for electricity. France (not sure if its OK to spit!) leads the way by far. Any idea where I can get some Plutonium offsets?

Mystefying, that — our liberals have usually taken the WWFD (what would France do?) approach to everything. France has seemed to be their Mecca. I don’t ever recall reading of libs criticizing the French for building so many nuclear plants. Hmmmm.
Funny the way they want to emulate the socialism, but not something practical and positive like nuclear energy.
China’s being at the bottom of the list is no surprise — they are likely more concerned with building breeder reactors than any humane use for nuclear technology. As far as their being included in the list of countries being pressed to conform to Kyotomoronics, it probably has something to do with other countries arse creeping them because of their neovoluminosity in global markets.
Plutonium as employed in power plants is too clean and non-polluting to attract an offsets market.

If I were a liberal, I’d rush right over to GM’s and stock up.
They need the offsets, especially now that their fearless leaders are on the run, backing away from attaching a cut ‘n run date on their latest Iraq funding bill. Alphonse not-too-Sharp-ton is butt munching the Mormons over his last week’s crack and Carter is blubbering that he’s been “misconstrued”.

“butt munching”? Sharpton’s wasting his time. Dr. James Dobson has already declared the Romney nomination a waste of time. Either Dobson is a liberal in evangelical clothing, or the GOP is having an internecine problem lining up the ducks. I personally have no problems with Romney’s Mormonism, but not sure if I could vote for a person named “Mitt”.

In pondering the carbon offset system, the thought struck me that the concept bears some resemblence to the medieval regligious practice of selling indulgences. Once again, my slow thought process has been pre-empted: see http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2006/10/19/selling-indulgences/ for a nice ironic comparison. Do we detect an opportunity for some enterprising weather conservative to nail 95 theses to some weather channel doors? I’ll pass on the Diet of Worms, preferring grainfed Hereford..

Selling indulgences is a perfect comparison to selling carbon offsets. I say this without any belief that man in any way causes climate change.
It actually fits, though, seeing as Global Warming has become a religion over there on the left — with Gore as the Cardinal of Carbon, selling his fraud based indulgences.
No grain fed Hereford for me tonight, unfortunately — it’s Buca di Beppo, straight ahead…
