Shoe is On Other Foot, or…Liberal Hypocrisy?

Remember when presidential candidate B. Hussein Obama and the rest of the leftists railed against then President George W. Bush for his homeland security policies regarding monitoring overseas telephone calls between suspected terrorism involvees and bank accounts/transactions of same, how heinous they made it all sound, as though the evil conservative POTUS was denying any semblance of privacy to we, the people, singling out little junior’s bank book and listening in on our most intimate telephone conversations?

Well, folks, all those exaggerated responses to logical security policies were mere bagatelles compared to what we now learn Obama’s tame attorney general, Eric Holder, has been up to.

From Wired dot Com:

Attorney General Secretly Granted Gov. Ability to Develop and Store Dossiers on Innocent Americans

In a secret government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime, according to a news report.

Earlier this year, Attorney General Eric Holder granted the center the ability to copy entire government databases holding information on flight records, casino-employee lists, the names of Americans hosting foreign-exchange students and other data, and to store it for up to five years, even without suspicion that someone in the database has committed a crime, according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story.

Whereas previously the law prohibited the center from storing data compilations on U.S. citizens unless they were suspected of terrorist activity or were relevant to an ongoing terrorism investigation, the new powers give the center the ability to not only collect and store vast databases of information but also to trawl through and analyze it for suspicious patterns of behavior in order to uncover activity that could launch an investigation.

The changes granted by Holder would also allow databases containing information about U.S. citizens to be shared with foreign governments for their own analysis.

A former senior White House official told the Journal that the new changes were “breathtaking in scope.”

But counterterrorism officials tried to downplay the move by telling the Journal that the changes come with strict guidelines about how the data can be used.

Yeah, yeah, sure they do…

Just like all the other so-called “invasive” Bush policies Obama vowed to do away with while he was running for president (to maintain the votes from his liberal base), but only intensified once he’s become president.

On Parasites and Obamamath

Many of us undoubtedly knew by yesterday that Twinkies© are on the cusp of extinction (is nothing sacred anymore!?)

Occupy Wall Street should be rejoicing. They want to “end corporate greed” and, yesterday, they ended it. It was only a one source of corporate greed among many, but I’m sure there will be more successes in spreading virtue (and poverty) in the near future. Reuters reports that Hostess Brands is going bankrupt. This is not the “let’s reschedule our payments” kind of bankruptcy, but the “sell every piece of hardware we have to whoever will bid for it” kind of bankruptcy.

So the corporate greed of Hostess Brands is now ending. No longer will they want to make money. No longer will they heartlessly buy ingredients at the lowest price they can get to make sugar snacks and white bread at a price point where consumers will buy them. No longer will they fight with their unionized workers to get them to accept lower pay or lower benefits.

Yes, here’s that link again.

Let’s read it all

This disaster shows that saying there is no more “greed” is another way of saying there is no longer anything to attract a profit motive. Which is another way of saying, consumers will have to go elsewhere to get what they want. Unjustifiable pensions and other burdens have led to the point that the company can no longer make a profit. As a result, there is no Hostess Brands to hire people or buy from suppliers to provide bread to consumers. Are the unionized workers better off now?

What people need to understand is that this is not just something that happened due to union greed and stupidity. This is also our current administration’s plan. The reason we had an auto bailout is that GM had become virtually a healthcare provider that made a few automobiles for sale. And GM and others are undoubtedly going to do it all over again—only to be bailed out again. That is how the totalitarians want it. They want corporations to be arms of the welfare state. Bailing out companies that go bankrupt from bestowing benefits means that the taxpayers are the ones bestowing benefits. It is just Blackwater for the welfare state—handing out freebies in Detroit rather than shooting people in Iraq.

The state wants a few giant corporations that can be controlled and that can do social experiments to pave the way for “gay” “marriage” benefits and other politically correct dreams. This gives us a few token CEOs to go about the country styling as capitalists who can publicly promote higher taxes or other things as ways to make “the wealthy pay their fair share.” But these things will never hurt them because they are in a protected club. Since the state is currently at war with calories, Hostess Brand is not welcome into that club.

What about those more than eighteen thousand workers who are now facing unemployment? That too is a win for the government. They will now be able to pose as the rescuers, putting new families on welfare and boasting about how they are helping these people. In a great economy this might not work. But we are living in the new normal and, as Rahm Emanuel said, the government never wants to let an emergency go to waste.

Obamacare is a great example of how the government “outsources” welfare to corporations but is happy to take direct control over it when it can. Some see Obamacare (not without reason) as a huge piece of corporate welfare to insurance companies, forcing us all to sign up with them, and helping the big companies gobble up the small ones. Others see Obamacare as designed to make private healthcare untenable so that we are forced to become directly dependent on government—a “single-payer system” as all the cool people call socialized medicine.

Either way, the state wins and consumers lose. Doing without Twinkies will be easy. Much more important products of “corporate greed” will soon also be disappearing.

That, friends, is spot-on.

Then there’s the aforementioned Obamamath.

From Godfather Politics…

Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter is in trouble with the Left because, like several business owners since the re-election of the Man Who Would Be King, he has said he must reduce employee hours and possibly lay off workers to deal with the costs of Obamacare and the increasing number of regulations coming out of the Obama Administration.

The Left’s knee-jerk response has been to call for a boycott because Schnatter is wealthy and therefore he should just absorb any increase costs. Or the other analysis floating around the leftist blogs and places like Forbes is that Obamacare would only mean an increase of 14 cents per pizza, therefore Schnatter is just being evil, conservative and political.

Schnatter has said Obamacare could cost up to $8 million per year. The Left’s argument goes that $8 million is just a “drop in the bucket” for a company with total operating expenses of $1.131 billion last year.

A little analysis of the numbers published by Forbes, however, reveals a slightly different picture.

Papa John’s had total revenue of $1.218 billion last year, according to Forbes. That means a total profit of $87 million. Sounds pretty good, right?

According to Forbes, Papa John’s has more than 4,000 stores worldwide. Divide that $87 million by 4,000 and you get a per-store average profit of only $21,750.

Now, assuming Obamacare only applies to U.S. stores, then if we knew Papa John’s total U.S. stores (which Forbes doesn’t mention), we should be able to figure out per-store additional cost to U.S. franchisees.

Just for the sake of argument, let’s guess that half the franchises are in the U.S. Let’s also assume the upper estimate of $8 million by Schnatter is correct, then that would be an additional $4,000 cost per store on average, bringing average per-store profit annually down to $17,750.

I’m not familiar with all the ins and outs of owning a franchise, but I assume that $17,750 profit gets divided between Papa Schnatter, shareholders and the actual franchise owner.

That’s not enough money to feed a family, and that’s why Obamacare hurts small businesses and the middle class.

That’s what the Left doesn’t get. And that’s why re-electing Obama is going to kill this country.

Amen! :-(

B. Hussein & Hillary, Real Pieces of Work

It’s plain to see why the Democrats in various states don’t want to give our military personnel stationed overseas, particularly in combat theatres, elbow room to vote when time permits:

From Michelle Malkin –

What About the Camp Bastion Attack?

Three days after the bloody 9/11 siege on our consulate in Benghazi, the Taliban waged an intricately coordinated, brutal attack on Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. The murderous jihadists released video exactly one month ago this week showing off their training exercises in preparation for the assault. Where are the questions?

Where’s the accountability? Where’s the Obama administration? Where’s the press? Where’s the outrage?

Two heroic U.S. Marines were killed in the battle. Their names — Lt. Col. Christopher Raible and Sgt. Bradley Atwell — have not been uttered publicly by the commander in chief. Their arrival back in the U.S., in flag-draped coffins, was not broadcast on network TV. But their brothers-in-arms did not and will not forget. And neither must we.

Read On…

And then, there’s this one from Weekly Standard:

Charles Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods, who was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack at the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, reveals details of meeting Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton at the publically broadcast memorial service for the slain Americans at Andrews Air Force Base only days after the attack. And, in a recent radio appearance, Woods publicly questions who made the call not to send in back-up forces to possibly save his son’s life, as well as the three other Americans killed in Benghazi (which includes the American ambassador to Libya).

“When [Obama] came over to our little area” at Andrew Air Force Base, says Woods, “he kind of just mumbled, you know, ‘I’m sorry.’ His face was looking at me, but his eyes were looking over my shoulder like he could not look me in the eye. And it was not a sincere, ‘I’m really sorry, you know, that your son died,’ but it was totally insincere, more of whining type, ‘I’m sorry.’”

Woods says that shaking President Obama’s hands at his son’s memorial service was “like shaking hands with a dead fish.”

“It just didn’t feel right,” he says of his encounter with the commander in chief. “And now that it’s coming out that apparently the White House situation room was watching our people die in real time, as this was happening,” Woods says, he wants answers on what happened—and why there was no apparent effort to save his son’s life.

“Well, this is what Hillary did,” Woods continues. “She came over and, you know, did the same thing—separately came over and talked with me. I gave her a hug, shook her hand. And she did not appear to be one bit sincere—at all. And you know, she mentioned that the thing about, we’re going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video. That was the first time I had even heard about anything like that.”

Yes, the indifference of this administration to our nation’s military, the people who put life and limb on the line on our behalf, is once again manifesting itself, not surprisingly, as it did when a campaigning B. Hussein Obama went to Afghanistan back in 2008 to talk to some brass, blatantly ignored troops who stood waiting to greet him after he arrived, then staged a fake photo op basketball shoot by himself that was supposed to look as though he were “shooting hoops” with the troops.

What an insincere hemorrhoid a whole lot of uninformed, flat out ignorant or simply America hating *ss#0!es subjected us to when they voted this creature into the White House four years ago.

Let’s hope we don’t see the same mistake made again!

Okay, a third post, because this one’s another outrage

My first post today addressed, in part, the “homosexuals rule!” attitude prevalent in Obama’s America ©.

But there’s more.

From One News Now:

A border-enforcement advocate is blasting President Barack Obama over the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to allow illegal aliens with American same-sex partners to be eligible for consideration of having their deportation orders put on hold.

The announcement was made public late Friday afternoon. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano said a memo to Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices will state that binational same-sex couples in long-term relationships would meet the definition of family that government lawyers can use as grounds for deferring a foreign citizen’s removal from the U.S.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration (ALIPAC), reacted to the announcement in an interview with OneNewsNow.

“… Here’s the Obama administration again giving legal status - a legal “family” status - to homosexuals as part of an amnesty for illegal immigrants,” he says. “He’s also expanding the unlawful, unconstitutional amnesty measures, which started with the DREAM Act kit.”

According to Gheen, Obama is acting outside the Constitution of the United States in an effort to strengthen his hold on “unlawful” political power.

“He’s creating legislation,” says Gheen. “He is a tyrant, he is a dictator, he is an authoritarian, [and] he is acting outside the law.

“He is contradicting the U.S. Constitution, and [he's] appealing to any group of people that he believes that he can appeal to to be loyal to him politically and possibly further than that. He’s calling on people that he can count on to mobilize for him politically and possibly anything else that he wants.”

Peter LaBarbera with Americans for Truth About Homosexuality concurs with Gheen.

“They’re trying to an end-run around Congress by promoting homosexual relationships,” says LaBarbera. “It’s bad enough if it were to be passed by Congress and then signed into law by the president — but here again, we have Obama going around Congress and just enacting these radical policies.”

Welcome to Obama’s America ©….

Two Items of Interest

ONE:

On the issue in which Kommissar Ummm Politboro ooops! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continuously slams Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney with accusations that he hasn’t paid any taxes in ten years and demands that he show us his tax returns for said decade, there seems to be a slight, er, discrepancy, here

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid again deflected questions Monday about releasing his tax returns, even as he continued to pound the demand for Mitt Romney to make more of his own public.

Instead, Reid pointed to the financial disclosure forms he files as a member of Congress, which provide different information.

“I’m a member of Congress now, I don’t make too much money,” said Reid, whose net worth was estimated at $10 million in 2010. “But it’s all listed every year.”

Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson told POLITICO last week that the majority leader will not release his tax returns, writing: “He’s not running for president. … He has of course released more than 30 years of detailed [personal finance disclosures]. There is exponentially more information available to the public about Sen. Reid’s financial life than there is about Mitt Romney’s.”

Conservatives have begun accusing Reid of hypocrisy for his attacks on Romney. And the Las Vegas Review-Journal — in a somewhat different context — on Monday resurrected a 1974 statement in which Reid said: “Any man or woman who will not be completely candid about his or her finances does not deserve to be in public office.”

Asked about that statement at a news conference Monday in Nevada, Reid responded: “In 1974, I wasn’t in Congress.

“All you have to do is go look,” he added. “I file every year, every stock trade, every piece of land I buy, all the money I have, it has the value of my homes, it’s got it all there.”

Of course, it is, communist dirt bag.

$15,734,596,578,458.59 - The U.S. national debt as of June 7, 2012.

$200,000,000,000,000 - Today, the 9 largest banks in the United States have a total of more than 200 trillion dollars of exposure to derivatives. When the derivatives market completely collapses there won’t be enough money in the entire world to fix it.

And there are people who call themselves Americans who would actually consider voting to reelect that…miserable failure… to the presidency?

Then again, maybe I’m being too harsh; One has to presume, even with a precedent like Jimmy Carter, that no political party is going to expend their time and their capital pushing a total moron in the direction of the White House, so perhaps Barack Hussein is NOT a failure, maybe he’s destroying America, dismantling us from the bottom of our foundation upward, with every intention of doing so.

The good Lord only knows that like thinkers in the Communist Party have been trying for years to do what he’s already accomplished in less than a single term, so maybe from his and his leftist friends’ perspective, he’s very close to being a strong success at finally bringing our great nation to its knees…

Liberal Utopia, the Prime Example

Kalifornia.

Yes, that big state on the left coast.

From infowars.com:

Once upon a time, millions upon millions of young people dreamed of moving to California. Nearly endless sunshine, pristine beaches and a booming economy made it seem like paradise to many.

But now those days are long gone. Unemployment is rampant, home prices have fallen like a rock, violent crime and gang activity are on the rise, local governments all over California are facing horrible financial problems, millions of illegal immigrants have poured into the state, traffic around the big cities is nightmarish and tax rates are absolutely outrageous. Plus there is the constant threat that your home could be destroyed by an earthquake, a wildfire or a mudslide. In recent years, hordes of hard working families have decided that they have had enough and have decided to move away from California. In fact, since the year 2000 more than 1.6 million people have moved away from the state of California.

There are still a few pockets of the state that are still very beautiful and that have been sheltered from the economic nightmare that is sweeping the rest of the state.

But in general, most cities in California are rapidly becoming giant hellholes.

Without a doubt, the “California Dream” has now become a “California Nightmare” for most residents of the state.

Do you live in California? If so, perhaps now is the time to move. The following are 16 really good reasons to move away from California…

A few of these are: California Is Run By Elitist Control Freaks That Have No Common Sense At All; Political Correctness Runs Rampant In California; California Has One Of The Worst Health Care Systems In America; California Has Some Of The Worst Schools In The Nation; California Has Some Of The Highest Tax Rates In The Nation; Poverty Is Absolutely Exploding In California…

Anyway, there are a whopping 16 reasons “to move away from california” listed and explained, right here.

What got me interested in posting about this, since Wolf and I have absolutely no interest in ever living out there in Liberal “Progressive” Never Never Land, is Seth’s long former residential ties to the state, in L.A. and San Francisco, as well as my big, bad Wolf’s sojourns, during his Navy career, at Coronado, when I read a Wall Street Journal article the other day by Allysia Finley, titled Joel Kotkin: The Great California Exodus.

‘California is God’s best moment,” says Joel Kotkin. “It’s the best place in the world to live.” Or at least it used to be.

Mr. Kotkin, one of the nation’s premier demographers, left his native New York City in 1971 to enroll at the University of California, Berkeley. The state was a far-out paradise for hipsters who had grown up listening to the Mamas & the Papas’ iconic “California Dreamin’” and the Beach Boys’ “California Girls.” But it also attracted young, ambitious people “who had a lot of dreams, wanted to build big companies.” Think Intel, Apple and Hewlett-Packard.

Now, however, the Golden State’s fastest-growing entity is government and its biggest product is red tape. The first thing that comes to many American minds when you mention California isn’t Hollywood or tanned girls on a beach, but Greece. Many progressives in California take that as a compliment since Greeks are ostensibly happier. But as Mr. Kotkin notes, Californians are increasingly pursuing happiness elsewhere.

Nearly four million more people have left the Golden State in the last two decades than have come from other states. This is a sharp reversal from the 1980s, when 100,000 more Americans were settling in California each year than were leaving. According to Mr. Kotkin, most of those leaving are between the ages of 5 and 14 or 34 to 45. In other words, young families.

The scruffy-looking urban studies professor at Chapman University in Orange, Calif., has been studying and writing on demographic and geographic trends for 30 years. Part of California’s dysfunction, he says, stems from state and local government restrictions on development. These policies have artificially limited housing supply and put a premium on real estate in coastal regions.

“Basically, if you don’t own a piece of Facebook or Google and you haven’t robbed a bank and don’t have rich parents, then your chances of being able to buy a house or raise a family in the Bay Area or in most of coastal California is pretty weak,” says Mr. Kotkin.

Above emboldening emphasis mine.
