You Know…
…in large part, the success of the left in having infected such a large quantity of voters with disinformation sickness is, in many ways, the fault of the right-thinking side of the equation, yet this is, at the same time, somewhat excusable from an adult’s point of view.
After all, if anything at all has become cornucopially evident, it is that the Democrats have become, since Bush beat Gore, blatantly irresponsible in their anti-administration {and anti anything else that doesn’t glorify their own political agendas} rhetoric. Everything from comparing Camp Delta with the killing fields of the Pol Pot regime to attempting to smear the reputation of a great and patriotic general in order to achieve purely partisan political ends.
So here we have half a Hill full of Republican senators and representatives who are accustomed to addressing their professional affairs in a dignified and mature manner, as one would expect of folks we’ve elected to lead the country, beset by aggressively sub-adolescent attacks whose opposition would require playing in the same Romper Room environment that the Democrats play in. Being a conservative myself, I can understand where a fellow conservative might be at a loss to respond to such attacks, other than to offer up a mature reply, and at the same time feel reluctant, out of sheer self respect, to respond on the same level on which the attack-in-question was delivered.
Envision, for example, someone like John Bolton being forced to have a lengthy political debate with the likes of a Cindy Sheehan.
My point is that we conservatives tend to value our dignity, and the farther left you travel, the less value is placed on that very concept. As a result, those politicians who represent us are civilized men and women who would need to regress, drastically, in every way in order to remain on the same page as today’s Democrats.
Too many of them obviously don’t know what to do, I know that I’d be pretty nonplussed if a bunch of colleagues started questioning my integrity without any kind of evidence to support their innuendos, or blurted idiotic, platitude-related non-realities at me, expecting me to respond on an adult level.
The silver lining (for We, the People) I perceive here is that today’s Democrats are completely obtuse when it comes to reading the disposition of the American people. The problem, for them, is that they suck up the campaign financing offered up by ultra-leftists and other wingnuts on that end of the political divide, and then have to sing for their supper. This means that even against the sensibilities of We, the Voters, they are forced to pursue the agendas, no matter how unpopular among the majority of Americans, of those paying their freight — or lose a lot of campaign funding. We’ve seen how desperate Democrats are to garner, even at the sacrifice of their very morality, campaign contributions, even welcoming them from fleeing felons and others who run “bundling” schemes.
I don’t think the Republican Party will have as much difficulty as the media wants us to believe, in 2008, regaining a majority in Congress and another right-thinking President in the White House.
The Democrats have supped with the devil, and now he owns them. Hmmm, I seem to recall an old New York deli restaurant called Lox, Stock & Bagel. Now what made me think of that?

On another and totally unrelated thought, I wonder how Muslims felt about the first day of Ramadan being sandwiched in between Patriots’ Day (9/11) the day before and the first day of Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) the day after.

Speaking of which,

After the 94 election some elements of the GOP overplayed their hand and almost blew the 96 election. They misread the public and almost paid the price.
The Donks are making the same mistake, only on a much grander scale.

Shoprat –
“…much grander scale” is putting it mildly.
The Democrats of this century seem to have a penchant for making statements, issuing innuendo and inventing news without bothering to factor reality into their equations.
We can only hope that the voting public picks up on their bogusness in time for the 2008 election.
Personally, I believe they will.
September 15th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Seth, I wish I had your optimism. I see so much stupidity and blindness in our country sometimes that it makes me despair.
One of the things that irritates me is the demand that Republicans vulgarize the election by going on YouTube, Yahoo Q&A, etc… The Democrats have no problems doing that and answering dumb teenagers’ questions. Personally I find it demeaning.
It started when Bill Clinton donned sunglasses and played a saxaphone (poorly) on some late night TV program, remember that? It only demonstrates that the Left have no sense of dignity and no respect for the office of the Presidency. They act like a bunch of adolescents or Hollyweird socialites.
I hope you’re right. I hope that there are sensible Americans out there who recognize how shallow and extreme the Left is and will reject that direction. Meanwhile we have urgent matters of national security, the threat of Islam, overwhelming numbers of illegals pouring into our land, and powderkegs in the Middle East and Europe.
Lord help us.
PS- If I may, I wish you a Happy Rosh Hashana!

Athling2 –
Thanks!
I’ve always been one to respect the office of the President, if not the POTUS himself, and I never thought Bill Clinton respected even the office. I found that perpetual little smirk of his to be really irritating, and in his second term realized why he was always smirking: He and his wife were criminals — not in the sense of the politically motivated lefty accusations that Bush is a “war criminal”, but in the true legal sense of the word — all those shady dealings in which they were involved and which they got away with time and again, and here was Bubba — he had managed to hoodwink the American people and get elected President! Satan would be smirking too.
The left is pursuing a long term strategy, as evidenced by their saturation of the education system with fellow America hating, socialist liberals, revising history, and Hollywood’s liberal political bias in the making of movies. They are basically programming the nation’s youth to grow up with their political perspective. Further evidence is their campaign to deteriorate parental rights wherever possible, and the imposition of oppressive PC in public schools — James Taranto frequently includes “Zero Tolerance Watch” in his Best of the Web column, and some of the incidents are unbelievable!
My optimism regarding the 2008 elections stems from the Democrats’ screw-ups earlier this year, regarding the Immigration “Reform” Bill and the “John Doe” provision.
The People hadn’t been watching Congress as carefully as we need to for a long time, being all too trusting that our elected leaders were keeping the nation’s best interests at the forefront of their itineraries.
When they piled onto the agenda of granting amnesty to criminal aliens almost as fervently as they attack the war in Iraq, the American People stood up and took notice, and browbeat Congress back to its senses via phone, fax, snail mail and email. The same occurred again with the John Doe deal — the Democrat leadership tried to omit it (of course they did, think of all the revenue lost for the ACLU and other liberal lawsuit machines!), but again The People intervened.
This convinces me that the left’s extremes have served only to “wake up” the voters and alert us to the fact that the majority we (not me, I voted solidly to starboard last election!) gave the Democrats is being abused.
So we open our eyes and what do we see? The Democrats doing business as usual, devoting all their energy not to the wellbeing of the United States and its citizens, but to waging all out political war against Bush and the Republican party, trumping up charges that ruin the careers of good people, throwing slander and every kind of hateful innuendo at the political right… The Democrats have exposed their uselessness as proactive legislators and their unreasonable malevolence toward the Republicans, and have managed to do this in less than ten months, their latest “antic” being their lack of concerted objection to the “General Betray Us” ad MoveOn.org placed in the New York Times.
Speaking of the NYT, that liberal propaganda juggernaut, even their influence on public opinion has been declining: As readers have realized that the Grey Lady is no longer anything more than a soap box for the left, their circulation has been declining significantly over the last 2 or 3 years.
Yay!

Seth, both the post and the comments are excellent. My fear is that the Republicans might win and THEN do things like they have the last 10 years… spend, spend, spend. If so, it may set up Democratic majorities for a long, long time.
If, on the other hand, the Republicans develop a sense of fiscal responsibility, get rid of the pandering pigs of prevarication (Trent Lott & Ted Stevens, are you reading this?) and start dealing with what is good for the country as a whole, hell will freeze over before the Democrats take over again.
September 16th, 2007 at 11:42 am
Atheling echoes my sentiments exactly. So much so that I can’t think of anything to add to it! I pray to God that you are right, too, Seth, and I also wish you a happy Rosh Hashana!
I love this: “On another and totally unrelated thought, I wonder how Muslims felt about the first day of Ramadan being sandwiched in between Patriots’ Day (9/11) the day before and the first day of Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) the day after.
Heh! Serves them right!

GM –
We should hope that the Republicans on the Hill learned some sort of lesson from the results of the last election.
I know that I’ll be watching my Congress folks more closely, see what bills they initiate and how they vote, and letting them know when I take umbrage with their “spending habits”.
If they are pork prone, they are not representing those of us who put them there and need to be replaced.
We’ve already had more than enough of a sample of how the Democrats use a majority to last a lifetime.
Gayle –
Thanks!
I hope I’m right, too.
I thought it ironic the way the three days came together. It would be nice to have some Islamists around to wish a happy Rosh Hashana to, LOL.

Well said. I agree that regardless of media hype that the GOP is not going to have the impossible task of removing the Democrat majority. Especially if the libs continue on the same path they have been following, attacking the military , (the Patraeus fiasco will hurt them), heraing after hearing after hearing after hearing, you get the idea and doing NOTHING in Congress. This combined with the extrememly liberal , socialists ideas coming from the candidates especially the top tier will go a long way in turning voters away from voting Dem.
This media hype of GOP gain impossibility is designed to take the attention away from Dem lack luster performance in Congress and candidates who excite NO ONE! Their hope is to scare voters into beleiveing, “whats the use, we’ve lost already so why vote.” Which is similar to what happened in 2006. The difference this time is that voters are wise to this tactic and they have seen the results of believing the liberal media bull in the actions of this Congress. Voters fully understand now , “you get what you vote for!”
September 17th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
One thing is for sure, we will have two very different candidates and parties in front of the average Joe Sixpack and his family. The left gave us so much ammunition for campaign ads this last week and conservatives have got to run with it. Bryon Preston said it very well at Hot Air and shows us how with his own little video. Yes, there is two Americas, the adults and the children. America will vote for the adults. I watched the Democrat candidates speak yesterday, Mitt, Rudy or John would slaughter them in the debates.

Ken –
If the Democrats keep going as they are, despite the best efforts of the MSM to dumb down the obvious, long before November of next year every voter in America who isn’t completely obtuse should realize that they are flat out trying to turn the U.S. into a socialist state.
Luckily for us, our very form of government makes it infinitely tougher for them to accomplish this goal than do “those governments” across the pond. Ponderous public reaction, as I’ve learned and become confident in knowing, counts more in our capitalist republic than it does in Old Europe.
This in itself will supplement the inane performance of the Democrat majority in Congress and their war on Bush and the GOP.

“My point is that we conservatives tend to value our dignity, and the farther left you travel, the less value is placed on that very concept.” Hey, just cuz a guy tips a MooseDrool, has a pickup that stops at all fastfood joints and wears a Beechnut Tobacco hat, don’t mean us dems ain’t dignified. Geez!

Goat –
Welcome.
The party of “intellectuals” is so absent from the realm of reality that they believe their preadolescent behavior appears quite normal to everyone else.
You are definitely on target re the leading GOP candidates tearing their Democrat opponents new ones. Obama in particular would have a rough time, since he’s basically a platitude with a human body wrapped around it.
Hillary “political chameleon” Clinton, despite her skills as a con woman, would have to talk fast and bluster an awful lot, and would probably not retain much more than her “Hillary can do no wrong” following.
The “Breck Girl” would come off as the ultimate “totally out of touch with anything even remotely related to reality” hypocrite moron.
Needless to say, I so look forward to said debates.

A Beechnut Tobacco hat? As in a “CAT Diesel Power” ball cap and a half dozen or so tats?
And wait! You’re a self proclaimed liberal! Frequent stops at fast food eateries means you’re over-absorbing transfats. Doesn’t that violate the Umpteen Commandments of Liberalism?
And a pickup? Oy vey!
You’re on the west coast, not in Bayou Boeuf, Louisiana or Tupelo, Mississippi, where red-necked Democrats abound!
Now I know what you mean about the travails of being the only Democrat in your neck of the woods.

Seth,
I hope that you’re right about 2008. But I have to say that I’m worried about the damage which the Republican Party could do as well–if elected.
True conservatives in politics are as scarce as hen’s teeth. The “people” want handouts by the gobs.

This is why we must hope that the Republicans on the Hill came away with a lesson in the 2006 elections, and why we must stay on top of what they are doing, or proposing to do, with our money.
September 19th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
well said my friend!
My point is that we conservatives tend to value our dignity, and the farther left you travel, the less value is placed on that very concept. …goes well with the post I
recently did on DENIAL eh?..:)
Happy Rosh Hashana and a sweet new year!

Likewise!
We even see their idiocy now, with members of the lefty media implying that the Sally Field incident was a sign of FOX “censoring” her political opinion and a few others alleging that being unable to use profanity on TV is a 1st Amendment rights violation.
Only the dumbest Americans could possibly follow any of the above and not see how little respect the MSM has for their intelligence.
