The Scooter Conviction, Cabbages, Kings And Hypocrisy
Ah, yes, the Libby conviction. What a crock!
Since the beginning of the circus, Valerie Plame has been established not to have been a field intelligence officer and therefore an “outing” as such became moot. The fact that the entire case against Libby wasn’t dropped had nothing to do with any breach of national security or, for that matter, any concern for “justice”. It was all about a partisan political agenda originating, unsurprisingly enough, on the left side of the aisle. As the Bard might have said, it was much ado about nothing.
If you want to find a genuine case of perjury, you need look no further than here, and the ending of that event, here.
There was substance lurking behind the Clinton impeachment, whereas the Libby trial was based, essentially, on a nonexistant bottom line.
It reminds me of something that happened to an acquaintance in New Orleans back in the early 1980s — he became embroiled in an argument over something really minor with a police officer, and the cop arrested him for “Resisting Arrest”. The arrestee went through the entire degrading experience of the booking and clothes-swapping system and sat in a cell all weekend, living, I should imagine, on poorly prepared red beans, rice and grits. When he got to court on Monday, the judge observed that while the defendant had been charged with Resisting Arrest, there was no charge attached indicating that there had been any reason to arrest him to begin with, so the case was immediately thrown out and my acquaintance went free on the spot.
However, the arresting officer had, by abusing his authority, not only caused the man to endure humiliation and a weekend of discomfort, but also generated an arrest record that would remain on file in this respectable, innocent man’s name. The policeman had, in effect, achieved a “last word”, self satisfying, cheap victory. Bully for him.
This is comparable to what has been done to Libby.
Of course, even as they hint that the Libby conviction gives them license to go after the Vice President on the grounds that he was the orchestrator of Scooter’s groundless misfortune, the Democrats are already making noise about the possibility of President Bush pardoning Libby, and condemning the very idea.
I hope the President does pardon Libby — however, as he’s already left two brave, dedicated, wrongly convicted Border Patrol agents out to hang, one of whom has already had the crap beaten out of him in prison by the very criminals the Border Patrol pursues, I won’t stand on my left ear waiting for it.
Okay, so the left is capitalizing to the max on the conviction of Scooter Libby. To hell with them…
So let’s see…
This tells us that an officially accepted panel of experts has determined that the Bush Administration’s terrorist surveillance programs are legal and above board.
These are the same operations that were “exposed” by the New York Times as “Big Brother” invasions of the privacy of the average American citizen — reports by the NYT were, as they well knew, as available to terrorists as they were to the average U.S. citizen; In effect, the NYT gave away U.S. national security secrets to the enemy.
If Bill Clinton could get away with lying to Congress over a real situation and Scooter Libby could be convicted over a false premise, we’re “even”.
If N.Y. Times Executive Editor Bill Keller and his newspaper can get away with publishing national security/ defense secrets without being prosecuted and sentenced, it definitely bowls the left a strike: Treason wins, 3 for 3.
Bummer.
Sorry, I mean major Bummer. Our country, thanks to the resolve of our leftists and the spinelessness of those who purport to represent the right, is in a world of shit….
Treason is in this century.

Steven –
Welcome.
“treason is in this century.”
right
Treason is in this century. The entire anti-Bush/ terrorist appeasement agenda by the left speaks for itself. There is absolutely no support for the War on Terror coming from the left, only attempts to make us lose, along with a blatantly false “we support the troops” message originating in the Democrat milieu (French, spit!).

I heard an interview on the radio this morning with Wilson who is now pursiuing a civil case to bring out the, “truth, ” behind the, “leak. When asked about his wives covet status he danced around the question then sates that she was, “covert until 1997 and made a few trips for the agency after that but did not state any time line in order to avoid the truth that she no longer fell under the covert protection act because she was an anylists at Langley since 97. Nor did he mention that he revealed the same information in his book before the , “leak case, ” ever happened. This was a political witch hunt from the beginning and now Wilson is going to milk the conviction to its hilt!!!!

…Wilson is going to milk the conviction to its hilt!!!!
Wilson obviously feels the need to stay in “the spotlight” as long as he can, using the liberals’ and the MSM’s hatred of the Bush Administration as a tool. If he wants to be a superstar, LOL, he ought to dress up in a sequined Elvis costume or a Superman costume with a big W on the front.
Here we see the self delusion shared by heroes and icons of the left: They employ blatantly false premises and non-existent events as the foundation for the pushing/milking of any agendas they wish to pursue (witness global warming, “Bush lied”, et al), and their fantasies are inevitably supported by the MSM, ambitious Democrat politicians and dizzy liberal wingnuts everywhere.
If foreign countries want to criticize America for something, forget all the “nation building”, “colonializing”, “warmongering” “it’s for the oil” Mallarkey: They should laugh at us for allowing all the destructive, hair-brained idiocy with which we have allowed the left to saturate our entire political spectrum.
I know that if I were a citizen of another country, I’d be laughing my butt off.

I hope that Wilson gets his case thrown out on summary judgment. I can’t see what legal leg he has to stand on as just about everything he’s said has been demonstrated to be a lie.
As for Fitzgerald, there is the smell of personal pay back to Libby (wasn’t he Rich’s lawyer) plus the need to come with something for all his efforts.
Overall, unless the judge essentially nullifies the verdict by giving probation (or directed acquital), Bush needs to spare the country two more years of media circus around the appeals process - just issue a pardon - lance the boil now before it weighs down the 2008 Republican candidate. Bush owes this to Libby especially since the administration didn’t go to bat earlier and preempt this whole travesty from unraveling.
That though may take more courage than the administration seems capable of right now. Instead, it seems like the administration is more withdrawn from the public and just hunkering down on Iraq. The going ahead on Iraq is fine, but if you continue to refuse to make your case in public, you just give the opposition free rein so that the Republicans lose now matter whether they’re right or wrong.

I never followed this at all, but really find it troubling how the justice system seems to be being used as a constant weapon for political gain, even on non-issues. Some issues even seem to be made up just to create a court case to be propagated through MSM, and the result of said case is never heard about. The damage has been done, peoples lives are destroyed, and the victim becomes the criminal. It’s a very disturbing trend, and one were seeing up here a lot, as the justice system becomes more and more LIEberal.

Civil Truth –
That has been the case for years — both the GOP and Bush have sat silent far too often, allowing the Democrats to do all the talking, so the only story told comes from the left.
Bush really does need to pardon Libby — I somehow don’t see it coming from any judicial source, and it would be wise for him to do it quickly. I wouldn’t be all that surprised, though, if it just became another Ramos & Compean story, where the White House is “reviewing the case” while relegating to someplace behind the back burner. The Administration, while doing the right thing in most cases, has made too many political mistakes that have given the left myriad opportunities to shape public opinion based on falsehoods.
I have the feeling we’re in for another couple of years, as you say, of the boil continuing to fester.
AB –
The Democratic Party sold out to the liberals several years ago — that is where their largest sources of financing and other support lie.
They have nothing proactive to contribute to this country, so in lieu of offering up positive policies, they devote their every energy to attacking Bush and the Republican Party through slander, fabrications and agendas based on exaggerations, alarmism, distortions and lies.
With the support of the MSM, they are able to carry it all off.
The Libby kerfuffle is just another example of this.

Be glad you don’t live in Britain then - treason is the stock in trade of our civil service, our government - especially under Blair - and our media. This once great country has been sold out to the IRA terrorists, to the Muslim extremists and to the Brussels Bureaucrats and no one is prepared to speak out against it.
Socialism is a creeping menace in our age - and if you think it was defeated in Communism, think again, the Internationalist vision of Socialism is alive and well - and thriving in our political corridors of power everywhere. Our ruling elite have a vision of globalisation which does not include the man in the street in any perceived “benefit” althgough they are expected to pay for it.

Seth,
The world turned upside down. I feel as if I’m living in a Salvador Dali painting.

Gray Monk –
I have been totally amazed by a lot of the stuff I’ve been reading about events in Britain over the last few years, so much of it unbelievable. I was surprised when they actually gave up such a large degree of sovereignty by joining the socialist EU, and what I see happening over there re acquiescence to Islam breaks my heart — it’s exactly what our stateside liberals would love to see happen here, as well.
I have a number of British friends, and none of them is anything like those who would be responsible for any of this. I’d be willing to bet that like here in the U.S., the problems stem in large part from a minority of Brits pushing their agendas through a leftist media that uses the public’s trust against them.
AOW –
I know exactly what you mean.
